What is Jazz?

The style known as 'Jazz' has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on POP music videos, television, shows, movies, and commercials. People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the dancing is fun and energetic. Jazz dance emphasises a strong technical foundation that enables a dancer to focus on the stylistic and performance aspects of dance. Technique is essential for leaps and turns, where correct posture is essential to properly execute such moves. Jazz dancing is also a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. It originated from the Jazz period of music, but is most commonly seen in present day pop videos.

What is Tap?

Tap is an exciting form of dance in which dancers wear special shoes equipped with metal taps. Tap dancers use their feet like drums to create rhythmic patterns and timely beats. The term tap dancing is derived from the tapping sound produced when the small metal plates on the dancers shoes touch a hard floor or surface.

What is Street dance?

Street dance is an umbrella term, used to describe dance styles that evolved outside of dance studios in everyday spaces such as streets, school yards and nightclubs.The styles within Street dance which we will be learning techniques and foundations of are: Hip Hop, Poppin, Lockin, Breakin and House. Within all of the above styles we will also help to develop dancer essentials such as rhythm, coordination, freestyle, and confidence building.
